I tease my kids when they start thinking super early about their birthdays. And this year, I’m guilty of the same thing.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I found ways to invite other people into my birthday celebrations virtually. Last year, I asked for 45 birthday cards and took myself out for an entire day of whatever I wanted.
This year—I don’t want to overhype it—is going to be epic. And it’s related to one of my list items.
In October, I wrote the following post about my walking accomplishments, how I’d ben working up to walking 3 miles before I started running again.
Now I’ve been running semi-regularly again. I can jog 1.5 miles in about 25 minutes. It’s slow going, and I’m kind of in a rut right now, but it’s so far from where I was after my pulmonary embolism last May that I can’t be upset with my progress.
If you’ve been reading for a while, you’ll know that one of my “10 things” is to participate in The Office 5K in Scranton, Pa. The Office is my favorite TV show.
I finally put together the Lego set my husband bought me for my birthday.
All of the details made me ridiculously happy. It’s such a fun show.
It’s been years since I’ve participated in any 5K in person, and one that is themed around The Office feels like a not-to-miss event. So, I’m officially registered!
Even better, the race is taking place ON MY BIRTHDAY.

I don’t plan on crushing any kind of goal. I just want to have fun with it and finish.
